Frequently Asked Questions

  • In our first session, we usually take the time to talk about who you are, what is (and isn't!) important to you, and what your hopes for therapy are. If this is not something you have determined, we will figure it out together. Occasionally, a client wants to dive right into an issue or concern that has been plaguing them. We use the time in whatever way is most helpful to you.

  • The modalities (types of therapy) we use are dependent on the needs of each client. Each of our therapists has preferences and training in a variety of modalities. We all utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which looks at what our values are and our identity. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as well as Solution-Focused Therapy, are often incorporated.

Mindfulness is a skill that we often have to relearn in our fast-paced world. It helps to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep, improve memory and concentration, and to improve relationships. Solution-Focused therapy intends to build on strengths to encourage small changes to happen quickly. Seeing progress quickly, even if it is small, is motivating.

Other modalities you may find our practitioners incorporating include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced, which is geared toward disordered eating), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

Some of our practitioners are  comfortable and have training incorporating Christian principles and beliefs into counselling sessions.

Every session is approached through a person-centered lens. We discuss attachment, attachment styles, and how they impact relationships, and we incorporate some Somatic Experiencing/Somatic Therapy.

  • Options include walk-and-talk, equine-assisted, in-person (conventional), and virtual sessions.

  • We are located in Foothills County, under 15 minutes from Okotoks and Calgary. Our address is 112173 2253 Drive, E. Our office is situated on an acreage property that is home to cats, a dog, and horses.

  • Rates depend on which practitioner you are seeing, their registration, and how much experience they have. Our Canadian Certified Counsellors are available for 60-minute sessions (50 minutes of therapy and 10 minutes of charting) for $150 while our Registered Psychologist is available for 60-minute sessions at a rate of $230 per session. 90 minute sessions and equine workshops are also  billed based on each practitioner.

  • Payment can be made through credit card or e-transfer. We also do direct billing.

  • Most Extended Health Plans have coverage for Registered Psychologists and allow us to bill directly. Coverage for Canadian Certified Counsellors is dependent on each insurance provider. Sessions with most providers can be submitted to a health spending account for reimbursement.

Direct billing for our psychologist is available for:

Unfortunately Sunlife does not allow psychologists to direct bill for their services. You can submit the receipt from your session to Sun Life for reimbursement.
